I have been an ISA member since 1977 when the Ireland Section was inaugurated in Ireland. I served as President of that section in 1984/5 during which time ISA held its first ever Exhibition and Conference outside of continental America.

I have been honoured and humbled by the the recognition of ISA a number of times, in my own section with the Pioneer Award, which is "in recognition of a lifetime devoted to instrumentation in Ireland." and in 2007 when I received the ISA's coveted Golden Achievement Award, "for long and continuous dedication to the Society and its ideals."

In 2008 I was elected to be Vice President of the ISA's Publications Department for the years 2011-2012.

Involved in the marketing, sales of automation products since 1966, in 1988 I founded Read-out. This Ireland's journal of Instrumentation, Control and Automation. It is a bimonthly publication distributed throughout the island of Ireland.

In 1994 Read-out founded its internet presence, the "Read-out Instrumentation Signpost" which now boasts of in excess of 4000 visitor per week. This resource reports on news, events and acts as a portal to various resources of interest to automation professionals. Early 2009 it started to use the Facebook resource which lists the items of news in digest form on the Read-out Instrumentation Signpost Fan Club. This digest is a continuosly updated link to the Read-out Signpost blogs (currently two) and links to other news items which occur from time to time.

"Yes, while these certs were available as participants left the sessions it was not always made clear that this was the case. A lesson to take to Orlando. Eoin Ó Riain, Pubs VP"

"I like the fact that they are looking at specifics, on "How the hacker has become more intrigued with industrial control systems and constantly searches for vulnerabilities!" The wireless track also looks laike a place to be, especially the panel of experts discussing technologies & applications. I wonder who'll they be. Questions should be good too."

"Dean, great use of the Forum. I've written a critique which I hope is not a negative on, on my own blog (http://wp.me/pt7Kv-PY). One of the things I've noticed is that the majority of the cribs are quite easy to fix. What I would call irritants of the "pin" variety. You know the old saying: "You can sit on a mountain but you can't sit on a pin!" As Jon points..."

"Yes this Stuxnet thing looks scary allright. Nick Denbow of IAI has addressed it in the Sept Issue http://wp.me/pt7Kv-O3 (though prior I think to the Tony Bradley article linked by Joel or the more recent one in PCWorld by Robert McMillan dated 21st September  - http://bit.ly/cBHcpS)"

"A new newsletter from ISA Training Institute list courses (including those for the Fall Semester and in Automation Week). It look like it will be a monthly. I think there's good stuff here for keeping up-to-date as well as learning the "new" technologies. It is on line at http://admin.listpilot.net/mpower/showHtml.do?ac=isa&id=5lxqurd_ec17f591"

"I think this is a very important event for our discipline. The questions being addressed strike me as being particularly pertinent not only to the US but to the automation education and training programmes throughout the world. It is unfortunate it is so late in the week as many will be heading off after the main event - possibly including myself :-( I hope that a report on this summit will..."

"There are a few topics that I think should be worth considering. 1. The responsibilities of people involved in automation systems with regard to security. The discussions on the Stuxnet attack, the first which appears to have been specifically aimed at our industry have focused by-and-large on Microsoft and Siemens but perhaps there is some responsibility on the specifiers and users as well. ..."
